In the years 2007 and 2008 the old-established traditional Swiss tourist brand Kuoni underwent a complete relaunch. Due to their rela- tively radical commitment to a highly modern brand image it was necessary to reconceive the Kuoni travel stores in the major cities of the world. The design used for these flagship stores set an international benchmark in the travel sales business.
With over 100 years of corporate tradition Kuoni is a worldwide synonym for high-quality travelling. The Swiss travel agent with its numerous branch office is present throughout the whole of Europe and, as one of the largest corporations on the international travel mar- ket, has set new benchmarks with its thorough brand relaunch.
The concierge desk in the entrance area of the Lugano store has been designed using a combination of ash wood and Moorish tiles. The concise statement continues throughout the tiles on the floor and eventually resolves. That way the oriental flair acts as a quotation in the room without superimposing on Kuoni‘s clear and contemporary image. The inspirational area is filled with antique Moroccan tea tables. An antique Indian portal poses the entrance to the consulting area as a concise feature. The room, elevated by two steps, is heavily dramatised by the original portal with its old metal fittings. The customer is attuned to another dimension of travelling when solemnly ascending and entering the area.
