The project aim was to re-use the old residence of vinedresser families and transform it into a 4 star hotel overlooking the Langhe territory, now UNESCO Wolrd Heritage Site, and birthplace of the great wine Barolo.
The intervention was focused on the two upper floors of the historical building, the 1000 sqm roof terrace and the transformation of the staircase linking the Fondazione Mirafiore with hotel rooms.
The staircase was completely re-designed, placing the new elevator as a technical structure in the empty space in-between stairs and creating a new balustrade though as a continuous soft strip which links volumetrically each floor. This new element, as a result of parametric design and local craftsmanship, is meant as a contemporary translation of a noble staircase.
On the first floor, guest can enjoy the green panoramic terrace with a fabulous view of the vineyards.
Rooms are characterised by natural materials and custom made furnitures, as reference between the rural and noble history of the wine cellar. The 14 rooms with view of the vineyards, have all different layouts adapting to the existing building. On the first floor, rooms have been extended over the building’s volume with new winter gardens as small internal lounge and private terraces, while on the second floor they are characterised by balconies with metal structure and natural wooden floor.
