John Li Studio intentionally thought through every detail of creating a calming and healing space for the Angel Early Child Development Center in Chengdu, China.

The early child development (ECD) refers to the growth and development process of physique, psychology, and social abilities in children from the fetus to 8 years old. Chengdu Angel Center for Child Health and Early Development carries out health monitoring and health management for children from five aspects (including health, nutrition, safety (protection), responsive care and early learning).

When it comes to going to hospital, the children will be very resistant, the cold medical equipment will make the children strangely uneasy, and the children will be afraid to get close to the medical workers with an stethoscope, as a result, the hospital becomes their most hated place inevitably. In the interior design of Chengdu Angel Center for Child Health and Early Development, we attempt to change the cold clinic to a warm fairy tale world.

“Nice to meet you, angel baby. At Angel, we will bless and protect you and protect you to grow with the world’s most unique love, and bless every angel baby to spread their wings to fly after being fully fledged in the future.” With the poem as the inspiration source, the designers provide the design concept of “angel’s wings” to Chengdu Angel Center for Child Health and Early Development, implying Angel promotes the children’s growth.

The designers extract the wing shape to conduct abstract deformation and be used for wall and ceiling in the reception area and children’s recreation area, and the feather is used for the ceiling of the consulting room in the form of design language expression. The change in the feathers of the consulting room and wings in the public space means the process of angel babies gradually growing up. Various design approaches (such as anti-collision circular corner, pink, diffuse reflection lighting and sound absorbing ceiling material) are used to create a warm and comfortable inclusive space with care by wings.
