The local CASA28 is located in the Malasaña neighborhood, in Madrid, in a context of frenetic change of scenery linked to a process of gentrification that seems unstoppable. Faced with this process, the architecture of this Project grows together with the intention of two Young entrepreneurs who decide to give a new life to an old butcher shop founded in 1915, maintaining its history. Although the space has lost the patrimonial protection, due to the elimination of some of the original elements, it is considered that the existing architecture must be maintained and, therefore, in the face of a process of subtraction and substitution, an additive process maintains the elements that give the space its own character, architectural coatings, objects and remains of materials found there are conserved, analyzed and reincorporated into the project.
The intervention is reduced to the arrangement of any item of furniture that, through its repetition, gives space to the premises, integrating the three consecutive rooms that make up the premises in a single space. A structure composed of 80m² of birch plywood, with a set of lighting that frames its main direction, is arranged like a meccano solving the new programmatic arrangement of the premises. The public and private areas are defined by this element keeping the existing finishes untouchable.
