Sejima Kazuya

Sumida Hokusai Museum is located in Sumida District, Tokyo. It was designed by architect Sejima Kazuya and opened to the public in November 2016.

Sumida Hokusai Museum坐落于东京墨田区，由建筑师Sejima Kazuya设计完成，并于2016年11月对公众开放。

This four-story museum houses more than 1,800 works by Ukiyo-e master Katsushika Hokusai, and the Sumida district where the building is located is where Katsushika Hokusai was born.

这座四层楼的博物馆内收藏了浮世绘大师葛饰北斋超过1800件作品，而建筑所在的墨田区也是葛饰北斋出生的地方。

The exterior wall of the building is made of polished aluminum, and the slight mirror effect reflects the scene of the city center, and at the same time makes the building melt into the panoramic view of the city.

建筑外墙采用抛光铝板材质，轻微镜面效果反射出市中心场景，同时使建筑融于城市全景。

The design of the bevel cutting introduces natural light into the interior space of the gallery, and the reflective property facade adjusts the light.

The cutting lines are bright and simple, giving the conventional architecture unique form elements.

切割线条明快而干脆，赋予常规化建筑独特形态元素。

The walkway divides the building into two, and the existence of the gap becomes a gentle division, symbolizing the design concept of “approachable” of the building.

走道将建筑一分为二，缝隙的存在成为温和的划分，象征建筑“平易近人”的设计概念。

The gentle cracks in the overall structure are the central entrance to the museum, and the design of indoor walkways and voids continues the angular geometric form.

整体结构中平缓的裂缝是博物馆的中央入口，室内走道与空洞设计延续棱角分明的几何形式。

In order to maximize the protection of the storage and exhibition of Ukiyo-e, the internal structure reduces the introduction of light, and floor-to-ceiling windows are only provided in the middle.

为了最大限度保护浮世绘的存储和展览，内部构造减少光线引入，仅在中部设置落地窗。

The building structure is relatively closed, but external personnel can see the internal scene through the gaps and floor-to-ceiling windows, and the vision is connected.

建筑结构相对封闭，外部人员却可通过缝隙和落地窗看到内部场景，视线实现连通。

The gaps through the interior of the building confuse the concepts of "front" and "back" and can be entered in any orientation, and the museum is integrated with the environment.

On other floors of the museum, there are many English books about Japanese history, art, religion and culture, as well as works and collections about Hokusai.

在博物馆其他楼层还存有很多关于日本历史、艺术、宗教和文化的英文书籍，以及关于北斋的作品及收藏。

Sumida Hokusai Museum has created a permanent exhibition scene that explores the relationship between artists and the region, becoming a symbol of "cultural lighthouse".
