Located in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, Japanese studio BAUM Co.Ltd has installed a new building for BostonClub BLDB built on an area of 384,17 squared meter. The project involves the conversion of a space that housed a warehouse into a eyewear shop, museum and a laboratory.
The first intervention was to reveal the existent space and to connect it to the main headquarter by a footbridge. The led architect Daisuke Kishina selects a transparent solution to allow the company stuff to admire the surroundings. By using " Shakei- 借景", a landscaping techniques used in Japanese gardens, the background landscape has incorporated into the project.
The volume includes four storey connected by a concrete staircase. Placed in the japanese first floor (ground floor), the eyewear boutique embodies the ideals of the brand in an elegant and refined setting, minimalistic yet impactful.
All the sartorial details, as the traditional Echizen Washi paper chosen for the shop ceiling, convey a unique autentic atmosphere of japanese craft as the brand does.
A touch of wood warms up the interior, along with the genuine lether used on the top board, and the velvet placed inside the drawer to prevent the glasses from being damaged.
The second floor includes meeting space and a "Japonism museum" which celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2016 and where it is shown how eyewear are crafted.
On the third floor there is a laboratory for developing new material and mechanism for glasses and the fourth floor is a free space for events and workshop.
