At the master rooms & café is located in the ancient core of Sasso Barisano, the structure is composed of parts built in blocks of tuff and parts carved into the limestone. This diversity in the built gives back to the rooms, never equal to each other, a uniqueness to be discovered. This small casket, half built and half excavated, offers four chambers and a bistro, different rooms, synthesis and combination between the slow and wise modifications of man, dictated by primordial needs, and nature. Each of these rooms, therefore, offers a detail that gives us the cue to immerse ourselves in a past that is no longer there but that has become tradition.
Here we tell you not only the place, but we wanted to tell and interpret what were the ancient crafts of this territory. The design concept, born from the desire to tell the know-how of the past representing it through the metaphor of the frame that, by weaving the threads, generates a texture that unites under a single common thread the objects of the past adapted and contemporary living. This web of threads accompanies us on a seamless journey through the various rooms, full of objects that testify to the great skill of the masters of the time. Some of these artefacts have been re-released and adapted to the new receptive function. In this way the old amphorae that served to transport water become sinks, the characteristic wooden "clothespins" in a cylindrical shape, which together with black electrical wires evoke the folkloric image of the cables used to spread the laundry, become fascinating lamps. Everything here is handmade including the furnishings made by skilled craftsmen.
The project followed a painstaking and rigorous restoration that, brought to light the textures of the ancient masonry and restored the old stairs that put in communication forgotten environments, all in full respect of the original architectural composition of the place. The materials and colors used for the furniture respond to the poor tradition of the ancient city, wood, iron and stone all recurring materials in the old dwellings of the Sassi.
