Mafalala is a slum characterized by intolerable life conditions, which the project aims to overturn. The idea is to increase volumetry, building residence block 25x25 m with one or two floors, with 6 apartments for each floor. The first typology is characterized by a living room, a double room, a bathroom and a kitchen; the second one has another room. Due to actual living conditions, the project aims to integrate basic services like toilettes. The attention to the local culture is visible in the design project. The collective aspect is kept by creating a central court with a big tree. Around it, a circular bench sunken in the soil. Everything is meant to be selfconstructed, using material that are easy to get. Each court is protected by a wooden brise soleil that reminds patterns from African art and clothes, while the colors are taken from the Mozambique flag.
