ANDAZ AMSTERDAM PRINSENGRACHT
HONOURS ARTIST MEIRO KOIZUMI WITH THE ANDAZ AWARD
AND OFFERS A PLATFORM FOR VIDEO ART
AMSTERDAM – Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht has honoured the Japanese artist Meiro Koizumi with the Andaz Award for his video art piece Defect in Vision, 2011. The work, acquired by the Mind’s Eye; a partnership of Paul Geertman and Marcel Wanders, will be donated to the Stedelijk Museum and De Hallen Haarlem in shared ownership to be included in their collections. It is the first time that the hotel has granted the Andaz Award and is part of the hotel’s co-operation with Art Rotterdam Projections, the primary fair for video art in the Netherlands.
An independent jury consisting of Xander Karskens – conservator at De Hallen Haalem, Bart Rutten – curator at the Stedelijk Museum and Nick Pritzker – representative of Hyatt, selected the winning piece.
“Defect in Vision, 2011 by Meiro Koizumi is a beautiful installation in which watching, or rather not being able to see, is the focus point. By presenting the two projections back to back on a hanging screen in the middle of the room, you as a visitor will lose sight on everything that is happening. This impossibility to oversee the whole, underlines the tendency of the work in which the total absurdity of the war is badgered. The Stedelijk Museum is delighted to include this art work in its collection, in shared ownership with De Hallen Haarlem. The Stedelijk holds a large collection of spacious video art installations in which the work of Koizumi forms a beautiful addition. The Stedelijk Museum is grateful to Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht for the donation of this work and is very much looking forward to its future cooperation.” said Bart Rutten, curator at the Stedelijk Museum.
安达仕阿姆斯特丹王子运河酒店是世界上第一家在酒店中,像博物馆一样在空间中自然而然的展示了来自全球艺术家的40件影像作品的酒店。有日本Meiro Koizumi的Defect in Vision,还有其它艺术家Ryan Gander, Yael Bartana 和Mark Titchner等人的作品。这些作品成为酒店的一部分。
酒店致力联系客人与当地社区文化的联系,通过提供苏特的文化远处,创造性的推动生活,在酒店中如博物馆般整合进艺术。特别是动态视频艺术收藏品。
Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht is the first hotel in the world that solely focuses on video art and showcases a permanent collection of 40 unique works throughout the hotel, including various young talents as well as established local and international video artists, such as Ryan Gander, Yael Bartana and Mark Titchner.
“As a venue we are focused on creating cultural connections between our guests and the local community. By providing unique combinations of cultural elements, we strive to propel creative lives. The integration of art in the hotel via a museum function is an important attribute in this respect. Our dynamic video art collection enables us to create a platform for a relatively young art form which is visible to guests the entire day. Our co-operation with Art Rotterdam further enhances these efforts in showcasing video art to a broad audience,” said Toni Hinterstoisser, general manager of Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht.
In support of Art Rotterdam Projections, one more video art work is acquired by the jury on behalf of the Mind’s Eye. It concerns Vengeance, the complete Episodes 1 – 7, 2012 by Keren Cytter. Three episodes have already been made, the other four episodes will be produces this year. The piece will be added to the current video art collection of the Mind’s Eye, as presented at Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht.
