Situated on the Virginia Peninsula along Chesapeake Bay, Hampton, Virginia, has many unique resources: institutional anchors, tourist attractions, and a historic waterfront that can support dining, recreation, and industry. Working in conjunction with Hampton First/Downtown Hampton Development Partnership and the City of Hampton, Sasaki and our sub-consultant HR&A Advisors prepared a master plan and implementation strategy for downtown Hampton. The goals of the master plan are to attract and retain a greater downtown resident population and to address critical questions on repositioning downtown in order to better take advantage of its assets. Building upon previous planning initiatives and capitalizing on the waterfront location, the vision provides a framework for public, private, and institutional investment and details specific residential, retail, commercial, and hospitality projects within an improved civic realm.
