Since its foundation only five years ago by designers Dongjoon Lim and Sookyo Jeong, Seoul-based menswear brand Post Archive Faction has gone leaps and bounds. The brand’s forward silhouettes have resonated well with a savvy young crowd, resulting in a long list of leading stockists across the planet. But this year, Lim and Jeong have take their operations to a new level, opening the doors of the very first Post Archive Faction store in the South Korean capital. Occupying a unit of approx. 83 sqm. (892 sq.ft.) 0n the ground floor of a four-storey building in Sindang-dong, a mixed residential and industrial area far away from the city’s usual shopping grounds, it sees an interior design by local architecture practice Creative Studio Unravel. The floor-to-ceiling glass façade, framed by shiny metal which embeds low steps along the way, allows unobstructed views of the store’s understated aesthetic.
Inspired by the notion of motility, the merchandise, and especially the range of garments, is displayed in a dynamic range of suspended positions throughout the store, thanks to a ceiling grid pattern. Sections of the building’s original concrete shell, notably the one side wall and a floor section in the back of the store, have been retained and paired with whitewashed walls and a newly laid epoxy floor. Furnishings and fixtures are limited, comprising of a large glass cabinet with steel legs, a set of moveable glass shelving, and interestingly, a sculptural wall-mounted sound system by Evening Audio, an audio design collective founded by multi-tasking creatives Chunghyung Lee, Byeongseok Choi, and Post Archive Faction‘s very own artistic director Erika Cox. Concealed behind a sliding door at the back of the store is a cavernous fitting room which is entirely clad in metal.
