The Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) reengaged Gensler to use previously established visioning, planning, and design strategies to expand its ambulatory care strategy at its Plymouth location and provide a true ‘hospital without beds’ environment for patients.The full-service Radiology Department supports both the ED and outpatient visits with General Radiography rooms, Ultrasound, Mammography, MRI, CT, and PET/CT modalities. Located on the second floor, the ambulatory surgery center features two operating rooms and two ophthalmology procedure rooms that are designed to easily convert into OR’s, as well as central sterile processing and a prep and recovery area. This area includes 10 prep bays and 12 private rooms to support longer recoveries and can flex as a CDU to support the ED. This floor also provides a procedural suite for endoscopy and pain procedures, with 16 additional prep and recovery bays.Consistent with the vision developed for the Henry Ford Health System ambulatory care growth strategy, its Plymouth-based site offers centralized and decentralized arrival and check-in. The medical office design blends industrial elements with warm woods inspired by nature to evoke a sense of calm and comfort, while digital screens provide clear wayfinding for patients and visitors. Waiting areas provide both private and community-based lounge experiences, further enhancing the overall patient experience.
