The architectural concept for the
has won first prize in both the international "German Design Award 2019" and "If Design Award 2021".
The Vienybės Square project included repaving the area with a light material and inserting green spaces and white concrete sculpture-like walkways that are particularly popular with skateboarders. The square has been decorated with the most modern dancing fountain in the country as well as an artificial stream and benches for visitors to rest on. The square can also be accessed from an underground car park. The refurbishment project focused particularly on green areas and the square now houses approximately 5,000 plants including dwarf shrubs and trees, such as birches and pines. The plants and flowers have been carefully selected so that, during the year, the green areas are never bare.
All these features were created by the SBA Urban Inventors company while UAB Korgas was responsible for the lighting.
Accent lighting created by Palco InOut luminaires highlights the forms and diversity of the plants. The walkways are lit by Lander bollards, fitted with an asymmetric optic, whereas the entire square is lit in a diffused and uniform way by luminaires mounted on a UFO pole.
The atmospheres created by the artificial lighting are soft and homogeneous thanks to the 3000K colour temperature chosen.
And all these elements are perfectly balanced in the architectural design for the square developed by the 3Deluxe international architecture and design studio, in collaboration with the architect Rimantas Giedraitis.
The result was applauded by the international "German Design Award 2019” and the "IF Award 2021", both of whom awarded the project first prize for urban space. The project, in fact, has created an attractive space that citizens enjoy relaxing in, but which also has a functional design to facilitate the work operations that are usually carried out around city squares. This is the first time a project in Lithuania has won an international award.
