In the bustling city of Mumbai, tucked away within the walls of an old Art Deco building, lies a culinary haven that has undergone a magnificent transformation. Bombay Brasserie, a venerable brand that has stood the test of time, embarked on a journey to reinvent itself while preserving its soul. This metamorphosis was not merely a change of appearance but a celebration of India's rich cultural heritage - a journey through the nation's culinary landscape, from the northern peaks to the southern shores.

 From hand-woven textile rolls, iconic tin tiffin and hand-painted wooden dolls for the wall art, banana lead fiber as a backdrop to terrazzo tiles for the flooring and vibrant hand-woven kites on the ceiling, our interiors are a fruition of the rich hues, different textures, iconic handicraft techniques, and vibrant patterns that are an essence of our nation’s heritage. A celebration of India’s rich heritage, combining traditional elements and an aesthetic modern design with the epochal artdeco style, to create a truly unique and captivating style, enter the charming oasis to embark on a brand new culinary journey.

The goal of the Bombay Brasserie initiative was to revitalize a venerable brand while retaining its core values. The client wanted to give the brand a modern, new style without losing sight of its cultural relevance. The goal was to design a place that would reflect the rich gastronomic history of the nation, from north to south. The design team's task was to balance introducing contemporary aspects that would appeal to a new audience while making sure the space embodied the essence of the previous brand. The objective was to preserve the restaurant's uniqueness while enhancing its colorful, ethnically diverse atmosphere.

As guests step into Bombay Brasserie, they are transported into a tranquil veranda adorned with lush greens, inviting them to pause and savor the anticipation of what lies within. Upon entering, a majestic double-height space unfolds, reminiscent of an enchanting courtyard from an Indian household. Here, the art of storytelling begins as mirrors reflect the intricate world of kites dancing above. These kites, a symbol of unity and celebration, weave together the diverse cultural threads that bind India.

To the right, a magnificent Art Deco bar stands, promising delightful concoctions to complement the culinary wonders that await. On the opposite corner, sarees from Chennai elegantly adorn the walls, celebrating the vibrant hues and artistic motifs of the South. This thoughtful juxtaposition of elements serves as a gentle reminder that Bombay Brasserie is not just about food; it's a journey through the country's varied tastes, colors, and traditions.

Finally, the voyage comes to an end on a balcony decorated with tables that were hand-carved in Rajasthan, reflecting the state's rich cultural heritage. This deliberate blending of materials produces a seamless and immersive experience, where every nook and corner tells a story.

The design team decided on a minimalist yet elegant material palette that mainly infused white. The white Art Deco style serves as a canvas for showcasing the vibrant cultural elements that breathe life into the space. The wooden accents, carefully incorporated into the staircase and railings, create a warm and welcoming ambiance, a reminder of the simplicity and earthiness of Indian traditions.

The most compelling aspect of the Bombay Brasserie project lies in the thoughtful curation of various art forms that adorn the space. Each element, from the kites to the wooden dolls, from the sarees to the Rajasthani carvings, celebrates India's cultural mosaic. This unique blend of cultural artifacts sets the restaurant apart, creating an immersive dining experience that goes beyond the palate.

The journey of rebranding Bombay Brasserie was not without its challenges. The design team skillfully navigated the complexities of working within an old building, preserving its iconic Art Deco heritage while giving birth to a new vision. Furthermore, the team's success lay in their ability to understand and align with the client's aspirations, creating a harmonious amalgamation of the old and the new.
