The “SPRAVA” cafe was opened in the heart of a small Belarusian city Grodno. The name of this place means “craft” in Belarusian. This is what our customers dedicated their lives to.
Since they have been owners of a coffee roasting and selling business and of a small coffee shop, they decided to create a new trendy place with simple and modern cuisine, high quality coffee and a perfectly selected wine list.
The building where the cafe is located was built in 1867. Originally it used to be a tobacco factory. Since 1967 it had been a factory of gloves and this fact left a rich legacy of the Soviet culture. That is what we decided to take as a starting point while we were working on the interior of the cafe.
Calm natural colors and organic materials were used in the interior finishings. Wooden elements are harmoniously combined with concrete surfaces. The warm palette of the walls is gently diluted with the shades of malachite.
The wall was hand-painted by an artist and this is one of the brightest accent of the cafe. It looks like a big abstract masterpiece.
There is a load-bearing beam in the centre of the room directly above the bar counter. To hide beam’s wrong shape and to align the geometry of the room we decided to make an arched doorway. It visually separates the main space from the bar counter and the restrooms.
The block of rooms behind the bar consists of the restrooms, a kitchen and utility rooms. It was finished with oak veneer panels. Tabletops and the most of the furniture are the same made of wood.
The stoneware with a Soviet terrazzo pattern and a bar counter’s concrete panels refer us to the architectural aesthetics of that time.
