Today the building located between Flinders Street and Collins Street is one of Melbourne's most treasured possessions. Protected by the Heritage Council of Victoria and now fully and beautifully restored to its former grandeur, it is a fine reminder of a bygone Victorian Goldrush era, where attention to detail and architectural grandeur reigned supreme.
Our client purchased an apartment some ten years ago and asked that we create new interiors that was in keeping with the Grand building built back in the late 1800's.
So IDI went about starting again with keeping the structure but with some internal spacial changes. We created a kitchen and bench area which would allow an enhanced area for preparing and cooking the day to day meals but ensure that entertaining indoors and outdoors was maximised.
With young grand children a mezzanine area was created allowing the young ones to have their own play area away from the adults.
All wall and window treatments were carefully considered opting for custom designs. The European oak floor boards from Italy add warmth and style to the area.
All in all the finished result has created a memorable living area in which our client's will endure for ever.
