the ‘roomoon’ is a dwelling designed by the hanging tent company that allows campers to hoist themselves up into nature’s treetops. with an understanding of exploring wilderness and sleeping amongst nature, rufus martin, the company’s founder, believed that the product needed to be portable. ‘other spherical hanging tents and permanent and require an expensively slow setup,’ martin said. in response, assembly of the roomoon takes approximately 45 minutes to one and a half hours due to the fact that it is semi-portable with a 1.8-meter wide floor that can roll up and fit in the back of most cars.

during its utilized state, the structural ribs and main ring split down into short sections, allowing the floor to lift up so muddy shoes and coats can be stored out of site to maintain a clean and dry interior. circular cutouts through its exterior surface provide sunlight and fresh air. the project is capable of lifting any weight up to one ton, three meters into the air through the use of a continuous zinc-plated chain. at this height, users are guaranteed a safe and private environment.
