桑巴、足球和热带天堂代表一般印象中的巴西。
西方经典现代建筑历史中， 巴西现代建筑意味着曲线，热带自然和地域性，暗示一种优美的自然和不受外界侵染的地域传统。
巴西复杂多元的地理和文化现实提醒我们这种建筑审美的单一和偏见。
但这种建筑评价如何形成，为何脱颖而出成为全球视野中的“巴西现代建筑”?
为何巴西现代建筑与热带之间会有关联?
哪种“热带”引起国际建筑评论家和历史学家的兴趣?
巴西和现代建筑如何在历史编纂中结合， 在全球视野下的建筑美学与历史中占据一席之地?
若批判性地重新审视巴西现代建筑的经典化过程，是否能廓清这一席之地的划法，发现被忽视的美学价值?
本讲座首先要回到巴西美学与艺术史脉络中，追溯欧洲殖民艺术家们如何“定义”巴西土地、气候和水等领土要素的“美”与 “丑”。这就要求研究范围扩大为建成环境，包括水坝、道路和城市基础设施等构成“巴西现代建筑”知识生成的基础。

Constructing the Territorial Sublime:
The Aesthetic Research of Brazilian Built Environment
Brazil represents samba, football, and a tropical paradise. In the historiography of classic Western modern architecture, Brazilian Modern Architecture implies curves, tropical nature, and locality, suggesting a beautiful nature and a regional tradition untouched by external influences. The complex and diverse geographical and cultural reality of Brazil reminds us of the singularity and prejudice of this architectural aesthetic. But how did this architectural assessment come about, and why does it stand out as 'Brazilian modern architecture' in a global perspective? Why is there a connection between Brazilian modern architecture and the tropics? Which 'tropics' have attracted the interest of international architectural critics and historians? How does Brazilian and modern architecture fit together in historical codification and take their place in the aesthetics and history of architecture from a global perspective? If we critically re-examine the process of classicization of Brazilian modern architecture, can we clarify the delineation of this position and discover the aesthetic values that have been overlooked?
To revisit the history of Brazilian modern architecture, it is necessary to return to its aesthetic and artistic history and trace how European colonial artists 'defined' the 'beauty' and 'ugliness' of Brazil's territorial elements of land, climate, and water. This requires an extension of the study to the built environment, including dams, roads, and urban infrastructure, which form this kind of knowledge about 'Brazilian Modern Architecture.' Therefore, this study traces a process of specific architectural knowledge production. Through anthropology, human geography, and historical research, it examines the process by which global modern architecture and Brazilian territory intertwine to create a Brazilian architectural aesthetic from various aspects of territorial transformation. This presentation proposes the territorial sublime as an aesthetic of Brazilian modernity, exposing the roots of a single civilizational view of European Romantic nature in the understanding of Brazilian modern architecture and re-drawing its subliming power behind the romantic.
