As a result of the new urban development, traditional urban fabric of the cities are destroyed to be replaced by new buildings. The main purpose of this project was to design based on traditional urban methodology in order to restore the introverted courtyard model from the traditional Persian architecture.
The functional program of the project consists of commercial, residential, as well as hotel zones. The spatial organization of the project was defined to maximize the relationship between the city and the complex so that the main open space of the project becomes part of the surrounding urban context.
The building morphology is homogenous in the entirety of the project, while it hosts a variety of different functional spaces.
Contrasting to common commercial typologies in which the connection to the city is made through gates, in this project the commercial zone is defined as an urban plaza in connection to the city. This plaza becomes a platform for social interactions and entertainments. The created spaces in this zone are categorized as closed, semi-open, as well as open spaces. The commercial zone occupies 3 levels of the complex and includes 3 sections: the open urban plaza at the lowest level, the semi closed commercial plaza, and the individual commercial units.
The residential zone of the complex is located on the floors above the commercial zone. Each residential unit has a private courtyard which could become part of the interior space during cold seasons. Above the residential levels is the hotel zone with private courtyards for the guests.
