Shaped by the desire to create a space that is stopped in time, jjacques is created in a soothing, dreamlike universe where colors, textures and different mediums are captivating as you experience it for the time of an evening. Jacques, the grandfather to one of the owners, was a well dressed man who in addition, had great pleasure in hosting warm and tasteful gatherings. Once a snack bar on St-Joseph street in Québec city, the entire environment has been renewed into both a mysteriously creative and authentic space.

Once inside, the unfolding of the jjacques is developed as an axial arrangement, resembling the concept of train wagons, discovering new spaces along the immersion. The entrance, only accessible by the back street, is marked by a long hallway bordered with heavy velvet curtains, gently revealing the main space. After having crossed the hallway, a warm and inviting area is discovered where one can take a seat and share the space with the chefs and cocktail professionals.

Wrapped by the curved geometry of the ceiling, the long custom made bench modules are divided by a series of semi-transparent curtains. The dark tones of the wood stain and the gray ceramic mosaÏc intertwine with the lighter shades such as cream, purple and pink. Lit by bespoke `duplicate` lamps, the slightly raised bar lies at the centre of the space, thus allowing more proximity with the staff. Several elements of the bar such as the stools, the mirrors or the table legs have duplicate parts giving a subtle nod to the concept of the bar’s name, written with a double `j`. Once the main area is crossed, a cozy space is discovered, surrounded by deep green velvet curtains. This smaller space is used to accommodate larger groups and serves as a pathway to the last room of the bar. It unveils a large fresco that is specifically designed to blend with the entire experience offered by jjacques.

Cyrielle Tremblay is the mural artist who’s creations are inspired by Mexico’s mural culture. She used the idea of a dream and blended it in a timeless and distinctive piece that stems from the inside of her imagination. Under this unique creation offering a balance between smoother and harder brush strokes, are two large tables to host private groups through the intimacy of closed curtains.
