‘Soliloquy’ is a project about funeral, and the goal of my work is to deliver a wish of beautiful poetic life and expand the subtle relationship between generations.
I was born in a small village in China, which is surrounded by high mountains. The life there was quite simple, because we do not have a lot of communication with outside, and all the habits and customs was transferred from generation to generation. My memory of funeral is from a story of my grandparents. My grandpa planted trees for their coffins, and he told me if you use the big and old tree for your coffin, it means your family have more energy and power than others. my grandma made the clothes and other ritual objects for their funeral. Meanwhile, they chose a good place for their grave.
In this project I choose the earth as a carrier of your life memory. Bury the wood into the earth, and the wood fibres absorb the water from the earth, then you will find a unique paJen on the wood. It could be a good way to collect your memory of a place where you have been lived or visite
At the beginning of your life, you will receive a giL of a wooden box, several small wood pieces and a hand-‐weaving cloth from your last generation. The big box will be buried where you were born to collect the memory of your birthplace. During your life, you could bring the small pieces of wood with you to collect the memory of your life. At the end of your life, your next generation sew the wood pieces on the cloth, It will turn out to be a ritual garment for your funeral, and the box with the memory of your hometown will save your ashes. wherever you are, wherever you die, your soul will rest peacefully with your memory.
“Soliloquy”是我最近做的一个独立项目，以葬礼为出发点，希望能够表达“beautiful poeticdeath”的感觉，和为了美好生活的愿望。
我出生在一个被大山环抱的小农村，在那里人们没有太多和外面交流的机会，过着简单朴素的生活，对于葬礼的认识都是零星从爷爷奶奶那边听来的，我的爷爷很早以前就用自己种的树木给自己做了棺材，也找了坟墓，而我奶奶也很早就准备了寿衣，和各种葬礼所要用的物件。也许对他们来说最大的愿望就是看到自己的子孙后代平平安安，他们也就可以入土为安了。
后来我的生活发生了巨大变化，从农村到了城市，再到国外。但是最初在农村生活的记忆的任何细节，仍是在我印象中最深刻并且影响我最多的东西。而之所以用“泥土”作为作品的载体是因为泥土承载了自然界万物的生长和消亡。而且和农村文化有密不可分的关系。我相信它本身具有的哲学意义也可以启发作品本身。
这个作品我试验了木头被埋在土里的效果。在你的生命之初，你会从长辈那里收到这份礼物：一个木盒，一些木片和一块手工织的布。大盒子会在你母亲怀孕的时候埋在土里，等到你出身就会挖出来，收集你出生的记忆。随着你的成长，这些礼物可能随着你到了不同的地方。把木片埋在这些地方的土里，它会记录你对这个地方的记忆。到你生命尽头的时候，你的下一代人就会把木片缝到手工织的不上，这样就变成葬礼所传的服装，而大盒子将用于存放骨灰。整个过程包含了上一代和下一代人的微妙的情感，无论你飘到哪里，都会有故乡的土壤保护着你。
