The LOOP PROJECT is located on the coastline of Toroni, in Sithonia, Chalkidiki, at the edge of the Peninsula. It is a new 4* hotel with a parallel restaurant operation. The Greek summer and the Greek tradition consist the source of inspiration for the design and also the owners' request. The concept was approached through the weaving art and the use of the loom, which are an integral part of the history and tradition of Chalkidiki, a process that helped develop the design of the accommodation spaces. The forms and geometric patterns of the weavings compose the space as horizontal and vertical surfaces.
The restaurant is placed on the coastline and can function as an operational part of the hotel, as well as an independent unit. After the restaurant, follows the hotel itself, which consists of 3 levels translated to 20 rooms of different typologies. The visitors find themselves on a path of alternating interior and exterior spaces. After crossing the reception area, they are introduced to the open atrium, a reference to the Mediterranean garden. The rooms are developed along the perimeter of this atrium and are airy, viewing towards it or alternatively, towards the hotel swimming pool. Patterns of traditional handmade textiles of the local history are incorporated to the interior of the hotel through a different architectural interpretation. The last chapter can be found at the exterior space facing the forest, where the swimming pool combined with a pool bar create spaces of relaxation and isolation. Some of the material used in this project are travertine, oak surfaces and metal in light shades. Finally, a parking area is formed through an internal roadway to cover the needs of the hotel.
The energy class of the building is A+, respecting all forms of energy saving in order to reduce its energy footprint. Solar panels cover the energy needs of the hotel, while heat pumps cover the needs of the accommodation spaces. Biological purification systems, water collection tanks, water recirculation and other systems complete the energy profile of the accommodation.
