MVVA has spent more than a decade collaborating closely with the owners of this 300-acre Dutchess County property to develop a landscape that takes advantage of a stunning setting while introducing new elements and uses. MVVA and the client have worked alongside various artists to make the site a unique showcase for a superb collection of contemporary outdoor sculpture. Additionally, the work comprises the siting of four buildings including the main house, orchestrating landscape relationships among architectural elements, the establishment of site circulation systems, and the design of the swimming pool. Large-scale site approaches have included maintaining the layout and sweeping openness of the site’s former agricultural fields, and relocating large trees from the center of the property to the edges to provide uninterrupted views from within as well as a screen of privacy from the outside. The entry drive, also designed by MVVA, employs planting and topography to choreograph a meandering arrival through rolling hills, hedgerows, wooded stream, and wetlands.
