We’ve been fans of the Stockholm-based eyewear brand Chimi ever since featuring their uber-cool flagship by Campus, with creative direction by Nineties. Most recently the brand announced an unlikely design collaboration with Kalles Kaviar, a Swedish food staple. The result is a limited-edition capsule of sunglasses and caviar, celebrating the convergence of classic and modern Sweden.

The design collaboration presents two frames in the primary colours of the Kalles tube: Karl Red and Karl Blue. Handcrafted from premium Italian acetate, the styles feature CR-39 lenses in gradient red and gradient blue, providing 100% UV (400) protection, while stainless steel temples render a sleek finish. A stainless steel butter knife and knife rest accompany each pair, while one million tubes of Kalles will be released featuring the famed “Kalle” boy sporting the sunglasses.

“We love Kalles and wanted to pay homage to the iconic Swedish classic,” says Lea Rystam, Chimi designer. “The glasses are inspired by the caviar tube, both for colour and choice of material and the tinted lenses are something we have worked with for a long time and wanted to add.”

“For almost 70 years, Kalles has had an obvious place on the Swedes’ breakfast table. Since then we have also made new friends and interests,” says Alia Jassim, Kalles brand manager. “We are very much inspired by Chimi’s work and inclusive communication. With this collaboration, we want to celebrate the meeting between the iconic and the modern. In this way, we can show more of the Kalles personality and communicate with a younger target group that has not previously felt affected by the brand.”

A hybrid between conventional and progressive eyewear, Chimi core collection features ten different styles in a palette of ten colours, designed in Stockholm and developed with balance and symmetry in mind.
