“Half of space depends on design the other half is derived from presence and spirit.”
(Tadao Ando)
Passionate projects usually reveal your creative identity most clearly. The interior architect Xusha Tkacheva confirmed this rule through Glass House. The design expresses the impulse to further explore its style, and is dominated by the integration of nature, architecture and interior.
Just as the name of this concept makes you doubt it, she has also considered making glass an integral part of home and achieved success.
On a trip, the Interior designer passed a lake protected by mountains. That day, there was nothing but water, the giants of nature, and the fishermans cabin, occupying a special place in her memory. In her own design based on this, it is impossible not to see the influence of the latter. She envisioned a rectangular structure that relied entirely on columns in the water below.
The fishermans cabin is equipped with brick colored rusty metal plates and components for freight containers, providing valuable creative input, and the designer eagerly helps her shape her own ideas. Therefore, the interior is surrounded by a series of consistent sand and terracotta tones. The second decisive feature is that the residence is almost entirely made of glass.
As the main materials, she chose marble, Tufa and wood. The warm personality generated by these three together successfully complements the eye-catching appearance brought by the consistent window opening. Although the external environment may sometimes appear cold or difficult to approach, the interior of the house balances this emotion through the gentle harmony emanating from the interior.
The layout consists of three areas. In the center, you will find enclosed spaces, including bathrooms, storage areas, and office space with a small library. On the right is the living area, which includes a living room, kitchen, and tea area. The spacious open bedroom with a bathtub is located on the left side. In some areas, sand serves as a floor, emphasizing once again its connection to the outdoors. It is not difficult to see the similarities between these elements and Japanese gardens.
The steepness of the mountains around the glass house contrasts sharply with the ease of snuggling in front of the window.
With the help of water, the Interior designer gave his own interpretation of the fishermans cabin, proving how the moment of inspiration gave birth to creative undertakings and highlighted the importance of passionate projects. I hope she can continue to spare time in the future to think about more of these impressive ideas.
