Hollis + Miller Architects designed the freshman center addition for the Blue Springs South High School located in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Blue Springs South High School solely housed 10th-12th graders-that is, until the beginning of this 2019-20 school year. The new addition gave freshman a safe, secure place to call their own, while still feeling connected with the existing building and their older peers. Classrooms surround an open corridor with ample space for circulation, as well as break out spaces for multiple class use at the same time. The commons area between the new addition and existing building serve as a hang-out space, buffered by exploratory classes such as Project Lead The Way. Sprawling glass windows bring in natural light all throughout the space. A diverse range of student gathering spaces and seating options encourage collaboration and creativity.
