- Charlotte Biltgen, a rising star in the French decoration world, gives a face lift to the Klay Club, the famous Parisian sports club, entirely renovating the splendid covered terrace and the restaurant now called “Sinople.” * India Madhavi’s former artistic director, tackles this bespoke interior design project for her first independent endeavour, where marble, brass and crushed velvet are the elements required for luxury without any hint of ostentation. The result: a graceful balance between Parisian chic and tropical sweetness. The industrial building designed for exertion housing the Klay Club is suddenly enriched by a restaurant in the form of a well-earned rest with a feminine touch, a welcome oasis.

The restaurant area is designed like a hotel lobby with its tailor-made stools, armchairs, tables and sofas. “It really is a lively place with people coming and going. Of course you can eat there, but you can also arrange to meet there, drink a coffee with the paper in the morning and a cocktail in the evening, I wanted the reality of it to be closer to a hotel lobby than a restaurant requiring booking” sums up Charlotte Bilgen. A grand style lobby, lined with marble with a walnut bar trimmed with brass and custom designed ceiling light. The elegance that is typically French, minimal, pure and sleek luxury without any excessive decor, single-handedly succeeds in providing an upscale ambiance thanks to the perfect choice of materials.

The outside covered terrace turns into a winter garden with a gentle tropical breeze. The graphic Formica marquetry on the tables contrasts with the raffia and metal seats by the Italian manufacturer Casamania. We are somewhere in South America in the 50s, Esquivel the Mexican composer of Hollywood music throws a party at the drop of a hat, it is almost time for an aperitif, the guests are about to arrive … Back to 2014, Charlotte Biltgen has slipped a bright and luxurious plant environment into an Eiffel style building in the centre of Paris, the true capital of style and living well, with all due respect.

Etoile montante de la décoration française, Charlotte Biltgen donne un nouveau visage au célèbre club de sport parisien le Klay, en rénovant totalement la magnifique terrasse couverte et le restaurant désormais baptisé “Sinople” *. Pour son premier projet indépendant, l’ancienne directrice artistique d’India Madhavi, signe une architecture intérieure sur mesure où le marbre, le laiton et le velours frappé sont les balises nécessaires d’un luxe qui ne tombe jamais dans l’ostentation. Un jeu d’équilibre gracieux entre chic parisien et douceur tropicale. Le bâtiment industriel du Klay pensé pour transpirer s’enrichit soudain d’un restaurant en forme de repos du guerrier, féminin et frais comme une carresse.

Avec ses tabourets, fauteuils, tables et sofas dessinés sur-mesure, la salle de restaurant est pensée comme un lobby d’hôtel “Ce lieu est un vrai lieu de passage vivant. On y mange bien sûr, mais on y donne aussi ses rendez-vous, on boit un café avec un journal le matin et un cocktail le soir,  je souhaitais épouser cette réalité plus proche du lobby d’hôtel que du restaurant sur réservation” résume Charlotte Bilgen. Un lobby grand style donc, tapissé de marbre avec son comptoir de noyer réhaussé de laiton et son lustre dessiné lui aussi spécialement. Une élégance typiquement française, un luxe minimal, pur et soyeux sans surcharge décorative qui réussit à donner d’un trait l’univers haut de gamme d’un lieu grâce au choix parfait des matériaux.

Dehors, la terrasse couverte devient jardin d’hiver avec une légère brise tropicale. Sur les tables la marqueterie graphique de formica contraste  avec les assises en raphia et métal par l’éditeur italien Casamania. Nous sommes quelque part  en Amérique du Sud dans les années 50, Esquivel le compositeur mexicain des musiques du tout Hollywood donne une fête dans un instant, c’est presque l’apéritif, les invités vont arriver… Et en 2014, Charlotte Biltgen vient de glisser une gaine végétale, gaie et luxuriante dans un bâtiment type Eiffel du centre de Paris, décidément capitale du style et du bien vivre n’en déplaise à beaucoup.
