The farmyard of the "Niedermairhof" whose foundation walls date back to the 14th century is situated in the neighborhood of the small town of Brunico in South Tyrol (Italy). The farmyard was structurally in poor condition until the Family Mayr has decided to breathe new life into the walls and renovate the house from the ground up. The primary goals were to maintain the character of the historic building, to provide space for recreation and open it to future guests.
The 5,000 cubic meter home was almost completely gutted in the top three floors, where the historic collar beam roof trusses could be obtained. The facade, windows and veranda were restored or reconstructed following monument protection laws. Instead of the former outdoor toilet a contemporary annex was built, which succinctly stands out from the house, fitting at the same time into the ensemble.
