For this course, we were asked to describe our best hotel experience. Mine was an old, isolated hotel in the United Kingdom up in the mountains. Coming up with descriptive words--peace, comfort, isolation, time travel, royalty--I chose the word 'peace' as a possible concept for the hotel.Next we were asked to find a special niche for a specific target market. With the word 'peace', I chose a market that's the opposite of the word and came out with a hotel for insomniacs. With insomniacs, I wanted a concept associated with sleep and peace and with that, the concept I chose for the hotel is dream.
The lobby is like entering the dream stage.
The hotel restaurant's concept is dreaming of being naked in public. Clear furniture and reflective walls and ceiling gives a feeling of being exposed.
The spa's concept is dreaming of flying. Being exposed to nature frees one from stress and anxiety.
The penthouse suite is a 2-bedroom suite. A transition from dreaming to waking up.
Thus transition serves as the opposite wherein the hotel is the dream, while going to sleep is entering reality.
The hotel's back office.
The hotel gym's concept is dreaming of being chased. Fitness most of the time is something most people try to avoid.
The hotel pool.
