The intervention takes place in a small apartment in the place where the estuary narrows down and meets the Rossio of Aveiro. A space originally characterized by a hall, a kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom, the latter having a privileged position in the house. With this arrangement, the hall was too big for its function and too small to be considered a living space.
The project begins from the pursuit of the synthesis of inhabiting, establishing a single element capable of creating space and different interactions within its multiple identity - the central closet. This allows not only the spatial definition of the living room and kitchenette, but also the privatization of the bedroom and the corresponding sanitary installation. From its double expression, it adapts to the functional needs of each area.
Resulting from the optimization of the existing space and the consequential essentiality of the architectural elements, the intervention is characterized by the homogenization of the materiality of the walls and floor, whilst the contrast arises in the multiple element.
The once fragmented apartment aims to become a compliment to the inherent potential of elementary architecture, based on an interpretation of an undisclosed reality.
