Three years ago, the Wallpaper* brand expanded to e-commerce, creating a marketplace for refined design in the form of the WallpaperSTORE*. Since then, the digital store has collaborated with world-class talents from emerging brands and designers to established companies and stellar names in the design world firmament – delivering objects, furniture and products by the likes of Zaha Hadid, Hay, Gucci and more to our audience. With over 100K followers on Instagram and a flurry of pop-up stores under the WallpaperSTORE* belt, the idea has travelled beyond the realms of e-commerse; below, we take a look at all of the creative concepts from around the globe and which ones you can catch now...
WallpaperSTORE* pop-up at MCBW, Munich, March 2019
For its first German pop-up, WallpaperSTORE* enlisted local designer David Lehmann to create a playful environment of recycled plastic inflatables at the newly opened Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor hotel. The whimsical installation, titled ’Fragile Welt,’ opens during the annual Munich Creative & Business Week (MCBW), and offers wares from the store’s inventory that celebrate German creativity. WallpaperSTORE* pop-up at Designblok Prague, October 2018
The store has joined in the 20th anniversary celebrations of Prague’s Designblok festival with a pop-up shop at the fair’s main spot – the 19th-century Industrial Palace. Czech designer Lucie Koldova was invited to realise the installation and she used new glass concepts by Brokis Lighting to structure the set as an ode to the country’s rich history in glass craft. WallpaperSTORE* pop-up at MUDAM during Luxembourg Design City, October - November 2018
WallpaperSTORE* turns its eye to Luxembourg’s bourgeoning design talent during Luxembourg Design City in an exclusive collaboration with MUDAM (Musée d’Art Moderne Grand Duc Jean, Luxembourg). Open from 19 October - 18 November, visitors to the store are met with products from Luxembourg locals like Christophe de la Fontaine, Meyers & Fugmann, Kianpour & partners, Roxanne Flick, as well as exclusive products from WallpaperSTORE*-stocked designers including Bohinc Studio, Bitossi Ceramiche, Phil Cuttance and Dimitri Bähler. WallpaperSTORE* launched this architectural flower shop, its inaugural Copenhagen pop-up, at Danish design pinnacle Hay House. The floral project was launched alongside the annual 3 Days of Design event, and was created in collaboration with some of the city’s best in the business: flower stylist Emelie Johansson and Tableau, a new space in the Danish city that showcases flora as art. Using WallpaperSTORE* vases including structural ceramic models by Dimore Studio, copper infused silhouettes from Nude and vibrant acrylic works by Studio Hattern, Johansson adorned the vessels with a range of flora, such as peonies, Lupins, Snapdragons and Zinnias.
Anchoring South Africa as a global design destination, WallpaperSTORE* celebrated the opening of Cape Town’s Zeitz MOCAA with its first South African pop-up store. Taking over The Guild Group’s V&A Waterfront flagship space, WallpaperSTORE* brought together exclusive pieces from The Guild Gallery collections by young South African design talent, alongside regular favourites. Featured works included ceramics by the renowned Clementina van der Walt, customised Converse sneakers by local artist Dad Khanyisa and hand-crafted wooden Bluetooth speakers by Shibby Beats. The local pieces were engaged in a design dialogue with WallpaperSTORE* pieces by Artek, Tom Dixon, Hay, L’Objet, Vitra and more, displayed across white floor-to-ceiling shelves.
WallpaperSTORE* pop-up at MAD Museum, Brussels, 2017
During Brussels Design September in 2017, WallpaperSTORE* curated a selection of Belgian design objects and furniture at the MAD Museum. Featured products focused on local design talent, including colourful tables and chairs by Muller Van Severen and smaller pieces by Le Typographe and Michael Verheyden. A corner of the space was dedicated to ceramics, with highlights including Isabelle de Borchgrave’s pieces for Serax, as well as Destroy Builders.
In an exclusive collaboration with House of Today, a platform for emerging Lebanese talent, WallpaperSTORE* brought a pop-up store to Beirut during the 2016 festive season. Curated by Carwan Gallery’s Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte, a mix of flourishing design from the Lebanese capital met products from the online store’s archive at Le Yacht Club. Specially commissioned pieces alluding to the Lebanon’s contemporary craft brought Beirut into the global landscape of design, and included brass salt and pepper shakers by Sayar & Garibeh; Thomas Trad’s copper bowls; Marc Dibeh’s decadent marble pieces; and 200 grs’ ways with wood.
WallpaperSTORE* pop-up at Venice Biennale, Venice, 2018
WallpaperSTORE* teamed up with the Venetian Design Studio Zanellato/Bortotto for its concept pop-up shop within DESIGN VE. exhibition (Biennale Design Walks through Venice). The environment was a homage to Venice and its its ‘Acqua Alta’ apocalyptic recurrent syndrome, when waters from the Canals & Laguna invade streets and campo around town due to high tides, the STORE* was serviced by local Venetian architecture students. Unique previews of limited edition pieces from Minimalux, Salvatori, Venini, La Chance, L’Objet, Michael Anastassiades and Nason & Morreti featured, and the store’s design installation was powered by local Italian metal furniture excellence De Castelli.
WallpaperSTORE* pop-up at Wallpaper* Handmade, Milan, 2018
Design duo Atelier Biagetti provided a playful design for the WallpaperSTORE* pop-up store concept at the Wallpaper* Handmade space during Salone del Mobile 2018. Taking its inspiration from the Brillo prints by Andy Warhol, the space was an ironic take on commerce with rows of washing powder cartons plastered with BUY NOW interspersed with refined pieces up for grabs.
Golden Forest at Salone del Mobile, Milan, 2017
WallpaperSTORE* tapped London-based Analogia Project during Salone del Mobile 2017 for an installation entitled Golden Forest. The installation was located inside an apartment peppered with pieces from the online creative marketplace.
