How does a dialog between old and new gets started – unpretentious, precise and exciting?
The building is said to be more than 150 years old and is located on a spectacular hillside with a view to the city of St. Gall. The building tells many stories. It has been used as a school, a stitchery, a single-family house and weekend refuge.
Now it got substantially renovated without losing to tell the different stories. The external walls got isolated with wooden cellulose flakes and covered with classical wooden shingles of spruce. All wooden lattice windows got replaced. The roof got a new tile cover. Inside the house a new staircase allowed to separate the vacation rental on the ground floor from the owners flat on the upper floors. Kitchen, living rooms, bathroom and toilets got renewed. The main goal was to let the existing quality be visible and introduce a design which actively works with these qualities. A dialog between old and new.
