厘米制造受邀参加此次“第九届深双南头古城分展场”展览并为其创作一组艺术装置。深港城市\建筑双城双年展是一个以“城市与建筑”为固定主题、以关注城市和城市化为使命的双年展品牌，作为伴随深圳特区共同成长的一种独特的空间与社会现象，城中村一直是深双所持续关注的话题。这次展览的到来也让我们再次对“城-村”进行思考和探索。

CM Design was invited to participate in the “9th Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture Nantou City of Nanshan” and produce an art installation for the exhibition. The UABB has a subject of “city and architecture”, focusing on urban and urbanization as its mission. As an unique spatial and social phenomenon that has grown with Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, urban village has always been a topic of continuous concern by the UABB. The coming of the 9th UABB let us once again reflect on the topic of “city-village”.

这是一场发生在南头古城春景街，梧桐街上的艺术行动，是以“春景梧桐-城村拼图”为主题，以展览为起点，通过六栋自建房的微改造，让南头古城的村民和访客深入到城中村内街里巷的一番有趣探索。

This art action which takes place on Chunjing Street and Wutong Street in Nantou, starting from the exhibition with the theme of “Urban Village Tangram”, is an interesting exploration for the villagers and visitors to go deep into the inner streets and alleys of the urban village through the micro-renovation of six self-built houses.

在“城-村”改造建设的过程中，屋顶一直是改善环境的重要组成部分和建设难题，面对屋顶，人们往往呈现仰视的姿态，作为建筑的第五立面，屋顶因高度而形成的未知拥有着巨大的吸引力，但也与传统建筑空间仅一面接触使其游离于建筑之外，使得在屋顶创造聚集的社区公共空间变的困难。带着这些问题和思考，我们创作了一组以南头古城屋顶为出发点的“第五立面交响曲”艺术装置。

In the process of “city-village” renovation and construction, roof has always been an important part and challenge for improving the urban environment. People usually look upward when face the roofs. For the unknown due to their heights, roof spaces also have huge attractions as the fifth facade of the buildings. However, roof usually has only one side connecting with the building, making it difficult to create community public space on the roof. In response to these questions, CM Design brought an art installation called “The Fifth Facade Symphony” based on the roofs of Nantou City.

随着城市设计视角，高视点的空间尺度范围切入，我们尝试以不同城市区域类型建筑古村落、城中村、工业园、商品住宅和城市CBD塔楼梳理和区分，并对每个区域屋顶赋予公园景观、种植培育、艺术展览、休闲游乐、运动健身等不同功能，进而发掘第五立面更多可能性。

With the perspective of urban design and the spatial scale of high viewpoints, we attempted to sort out and distinguish different types of buildings in different urban areas, such as ancient villages, urban villages, industrial parks, commercial residences and urban CBD skyscrapers, and gave each area of roofs different functions including park landscape, plant cultivation, art exhibition, leisure amusement, sports fitness, etc., exploring more possibilities of the fifth facade.

在思考和试验的过程中，我们对大量“在地性、日常性”材料进行收集与利用，希望此次的装置制作材料全部来源于我们日常生活，即地制造的同时也散发出一种全新的开放而接地气的特征，装置由六大不同区域拼贴组成，每个城市区域建筑由不同尺度的蜂窝板垒堆而成，屋顶则把收集而来的建筑设计材料样板、办公文具、日常生活用品、废旧回收电子产品零件以及3D打印的游乐设施等汇集成复合多元、共生交融、互动连接的社区场景。

We hopes that all the materials for the exhibition come from our daily life. During the thinking and experiment, we collected and utilized a mass of “locality and dailiness” materials, which have been used to produce the art installation, showing a character of local and open construction. The installation consist of six different areas, each of which is stacks of different scales of cellular panels to form city buildings. Architecture material samples, office stationery, daily necessities, recycled electronic components and 3D printing amusement facilities, were placed on the roofs to compile a complex, diverse, symbiotic, and interactive community scene.

“第五立面交响曲”艺术装置通过普世材料的重组与提取，即是对新设计方法的一种探索，也是此次艺术装置对“城-村”第五立面多功能、多层次、多维度发展模式的一次全新阐述。期待某一天建筑的屋顶空间会脱离建筑本身而展现出更高的价值而呈现。

“The Fifth Facade Symphony” art installation is an exploration of new design methods through the reorganization and extraction of generic materials, as well as a new interpretation of multifunctional, multi-level, multidimensional development model of the “city-village” fifth facade. We look forward to the day when roof space could be free from the building restraints and showing higher value.
