The transformation is in the old village of muraz. it has a strong and characterized typology. to access it you have to enteran inner courtyard surrounded by old vernacular architecture
the building is divided into two parts, under the roof to create two apartments. it consists of a masonry base covered with an old lime-based plaster. on the facade we have created small openingsresembling loopholes to bring light to it without distorting the vernacular architecture. there are the night rooms.
on the upper ground floor, originally, wooden slats filled the spaces between the central and lateral mullions. we createdlarge openings in a dark-coloured wooden frame facade. in front of this facade, we installed slats to keep this specifictypology, but which can rotate to let more or less light in as needed. on this floor we find the living space with a doubleheight above the lounge.
Upstairs, a mezzanine with a bedroom and an office area overlooks the kitchen. From the bedroom, wooden slats can berotated to restore a relationship between the spaces and recall the exterior slats.
the interior is treated in a rather neutral way in greyish white tones with a very fine plaster to highlight the relationshipwith the external spaces, more raw, which can be seen through the large openings, made behind the wooden slats.
