Smack is the latest venture from DesignLSM’s long standing client the Goodman Restaurant Group, the team behind the infamous Burger & lobster brand. DesignLSM were commissioned to create a strikingly simple interior design for the new fast food fine dining concept.
Describing itself as ‘the naughty little sister of Burger & Lobster’, Smack offers a simple menu based around lobster rolls to eat in or take-away. Located on Binney Street just off Oxford Street in a new build shell, our interior design for the ground floor take away and basement restaurant is minimal, functional and raw.
The basement restaurant created it’s own set of challenges, with low ceilings and a lot of structural steel columns dividing the space. In response we designed a series of hanging tables and seating making the most of the vertical divisions. We also up-lit the space from troughs running along the floors to make it feel less oppressive and more welcoming.
Working with the client’s creative agency graphicks, three walls are dominated by innovative, yet strikingly simple, moving murals they created of seductive mermaid ‘sirens’. Continuing the minimal, stripped back feel, we introduced black and rusted steel, painted brick and rough rendered walls and untreated concrete. Large stainless steel wine vats, a bottle tree and copper bathtub full of beer bring together the space, creating an original, witty and cosy space to enjoy Smack’s inventive menu.
