The house stood in a small river overlooking the Solent. The Solent is a 20-mile boundary between the Isle of Wight and the British mainland. The studio chose a low-lying structure so as not to interfere with views of the surrounding natural landscape. "We wanted the house to sit quietly against the background of the trees and feel like embracing the landscape when looking out," said the firm. The client asked for a timeless building that utilizes the best modern architectural concepts to create a whole -- no frivolity, every space and every detail of the building must be rigidly constructed.
