Axis Architecture + Interiors were engaged by office furniture supplier, Business Furniture, to design their new workspace located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
As Indiana’s largest provider of office furniture, Business Furniture holds an important place in the professional and design community in Indianapolis. A few years ago, Business Furniture needed a new space that showcased their company philosophy: that space shapes attitudes, behaviors, and business results. The caveat? The new space was in the corner of a nondescript industrial park that was anything but inspiring. Within this vast box of emptiness, Axis carved out an 11,000-square-foot working showroom. Today, the space blends organic forms, natural colors, funky textures, and vibrant accents. The open reception area is bathed in natural light, and the 30-foot ceiling was dropped in order to create a welcoming, intimate space. The social hubs focus on connectivity, comfort, and color. And a long, wooden spine extends from the social hub and through the open office, uniting the two areas and accentuating the linear floor plan.
With its warm wood tones and exuberant warmth and energy, it’s easy to forget that Business Furniture is in an industrial warehouse park. The $1.8 million design also took the “power of choice” into account and focused on a variety of work areas. There are several different conference rooms, for example, and an open meeting space is situated on a two-stepped platform. The space is flexible and adjustable (thanks to movable furniture and pivoting doors) and is designed to serve multiple purposes. Since the project was completed in 2016, the space not only serves as a showroom, but as an event space, training space, and place for inspiration and connectivity. Private meeting rooms? Integrated technology? A collaborative atmosphere? Business Furniture has it all.
