MW Works designed the Ocean Drive Apartment for a family as a beach retreat they could call home. The brief was simple; let the interior architecture act as a frame for the everchanging beach views. MW Works introduced a tactile material palette formed around dark tropical hardwood, to let the coastal outlook take centre stage. Timber walls distinguish the shared spaces, while hand-troweled plaster walls lend a softness to the private areas and highlight the changing light qualities throughout the day.

MW Works create meaningful spaces featuring exceptional craftsmanship, as seen in their Whidbey Island Farm Retreat in Seattle.Taking their intuitive design principles across the country to Miami, the architects have drawn inspiration from Florida’s native flora and balmy weather, informing the warm colour and materiality choices. Complete with pristine beach views, the apartment has a sense of permanence not typical of the holiday location.

Paying homage to the client’s love for travel in the Middle East, a custom plaster bas-relief headboard separates the bedroom from the bathroom in the master ensuite. Light-toned textiles and minimal furnishings subtly reference the relaxed lifestyle true to Miami.By focusing on harmony with the home’s beachside context, MW Works have designed a functional, modern family apartment that strays from the Miami architectural norm.
